About Renton Veterinary Hospital

Our Mission

Renton Veterinary Hospital has a long tradition of providing quality animal care services while keeping your pet and your needs at the center of all that we do. We are your pet’s health advocate and believe in building a solid partnership with you to focus on preventive medicine. We focus on providing affordable, practical veterinary care and believe in leading in educating owners about the health of their pets and how best to preserve them.

We value diversity in our clients and employees and build a culture of inclusion. Our team strongly believes in giving back to the community.

We are intentional in our efforts to make an environmentally light ‘footprint’ and, in general, leave the world a better place than we found it.

About Us

Renton Veterinary Hospital was established in 1941 and has been proudly serving Renton, Tukwila, Kent, New Castle, Sammamish, Issaquah, Bellevue, Redmond, and the surrounding Seattle area communities. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of veterinary medicine and friendly, compassionate service. We plan to carry forward the legacy after our leadership change in late 2018.

We believe in treating every patient as our pet and giving them the same loving attention and care. We are highly trained, experienced animal lovers devoted to giving our patients the best care possible.

If you have any questions about how we can care for your pet, please don’t hesitate to call us at (425) 255-8676.

WHAT MAKES RVH A TREASURED MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY?

  • A mom-and-pop atmosphere with friendly and caring staff members.
  • We have clients whose parents and grandparents were also clients here.
  • Active in the community, working in partnership with local shelters and rescue organizations.
  • In operation since 1941, yes, that is over 75 years!
  • We provide services in the areas of infectious and parasitic diseases, puppy and kitten wellness services, internal medicine, surgery, geriatric care, and dental care for pets. Specialists in neurology, cardiology, and internal medicine come in for consultations as needed, and when specialty procedures are needed, they are referred out for them.
  • We work with 24-hour emergency and critical care facilities to provide intensive care when needed for our patients. Please refer to the ER Vets of Western Washington Facebook page and Instagram page for up-to-date information on wait times for local ERs.  We refer to Blue Pearl Renton for Emergencies.

WHAT MAKES US A FULL-SERVICE HOSPITAL?

We see all types of general veterinary cases, including daily emergencies. This requires more and better equipment as well as highly trained staff. We coordinate and refer to specialists to get our patients the care they need.

We hire the best-qualified doctors’ staff we can attract. Our doctors are trained to care for dogs, cats, and then some. Those kinds of doctors are hard to find. We work hard to keep both doctors and staff once they are here. We are strong supporters of Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), and they make up a big part of our animal care staff by guiding other workers caring for animals and ensuring that the doctor’s orders are implemented. Our LVTs monitor anesthesia, allowing our doctors to concentrate on their surgical duties without unnecessary distraction.

Our doctors and staff continually seek further knowledge and training with continuing education, which we encourage with tuition reimbursement for all employees.

We don’t cut corners on anesthesia, pain control, or safety monitoring. We use isoflurane, an excellent inhalant anesthesia also used in humans of nearly all ages. We are administering long-acting pain medications for our patients recovering from surgery or trauma to ease their recovery. We often send home additional pain control depending on the animal’s needs. Our monitoring equipment is excellent by any standards. We have pulse oximeters to measure how much blood is in the vessels in real–time, we have a blue-tooth wireless ECG to monitor heart rhythms, a blood pressure monitor, heated surgery tables, and both infusion & IV pumps to meter out and properly administer fluids and medications over a specific time frame.

Our facilities are extensive, temperature controlled, and provide us with many different wards to house the variety of patients we care for. Huge indoor runs and wards are all equipped with skylights to provide normal day and night cycles. When winter storms strike, and the electricity is down, our hospital is warmed by home heating fuel, so you have no worries; even if you have to seek refuge elsewhere to keep warm, we will be open and available to care for and house your beloved animals. This is especially critical for reptiles and birds susceptible to the cold. We also have a well-kept fenced yard to provide exercise and play time for our dogs. These kinds of facilities are no longer common in veterinary hospitals. Sometimes, older is better!

We have special facilities for critically injured, hypothermic, or oxygen-deficient animals. Our large Oxygen tent can provide both heat and 24-hour oxygen support when necessary. Click here to read our envirostars article.
