Unruly Pets’ Medical Grooming

Some pets are not good candidates for the grooming shop. Fractious cats and dogs may require a range of medication from a tranquilizer to isoflorane anesthesia in order to groom. Some animals have hair mats that require dissection and shredding with special combs, rakes, or clippers and their dispositions do not allow this to occur without "better living through chemistry". Our staff can help in these cases.

In general, we do clip downs (puppy cuts, lion cuts) as opposed to AKC show cuts. We can comb out animals that are challenging but we are not miracle workers. Our pricing is based on difficulty and time required. We can, in most cases, offer dental cleaning if we are going to use isoflorane and there is an economy of savings passed on to the owner.

Wildlife Services

Renton Veterinary Hospital serves as the regional drop-off center for diseased, injured, or orphaned wildlife. We work under the permit from Sarvey Wildlife Center in Arlington, WA. Our staff has an extensive background in wildlife rehabilitation (see staff biographies).

Additionally, we have specialized housing for a variety of animals from bark slab perches, to brooders and incubators. We routinely stock a variety of wildlife foods, (e.g., frozen rodents for predators, milk based formulas for a variety of wild mammals, special tube mix solutions for weak birds such as criticare, frozen fish for seabirds) as well as a variety of food stuffs such as rodent blocks, mini bales of rabbit hay, and various types of seed mixes, duck mashes, and anything else we need! We even have 2 meal worm colonies to produce food for woodpeckers and migrating insectivorous birds. We grow clover in our yard to supplement our bunny foods. We handle about 500-700 wild animals per year. Our job is initial assessment and care, diagnoses, and stabilization prior to transport. All wildlife work is done without charge.

Sarvey workers drive a truck down the east side of Puget Sound daily and pick up the animals at hospitals all along the way. This pick-up service costs $4,000-$5,000 each month. It is unique as almost no other wildlife care centers in the United States offer this kind of pick-up service. That is only the beginning of the journey back to wild living. See their web site (put in a link) to see how the process works. Sarvey Wildlife Center is a 501 (c) (3) charity and deserves your financial support. Only with consistent support will we see this unique pick-up service and wildlife care service continued into the foreseeable future. Sarvey always welcomes donations of in-kind items such as foodstuffs but really, cash gives them ability to build aviaries, mammal cages, pay for upkeep on their truck, and wages for key staff members to guide the many volunteers that make the place go! Please visit their website and consider a donation today! It will make our world a better place.
